Standardized kratom extracts have brought a lot of confusion to people. There are two types of kratom extracts: standardized and full spectrum. But here, we will mainly discuss the standardized kratom extract’s definition.
The extract is a must-know terminology when it comes to products and items like kratom. Extracts also cover a lot of medicinal herbs and plants like a lot of capsules we take are made from extracts. So, what is an extract? We need to know what an extract is and how it is produced before advancing to the main topic: “What is standardized kratom extract?” so we can avoid any ignorance and confusion while trying to understand the meaning of standardized kratom.
Extraction is the method of collecting the active or necessary component of a plant in a concentrated form. In that way, you won’t need to take bulk kratom just to reach high-level effects. The same applies to any other medicinal capsules or syrup-like Vitamin C. A lot of oranges are collected and manufacturers squeeze the juices and take only vitamin c. That way, you won’t need to eat 10 pieces of large orange fruit just to get 1000mg of vitamin C.
For kratom extracts, old extraction methods were done that involve a generous amount of leaves collected and are crushed into pieces. That way, they can make a 5g leaf reduce to 1g powdered kratom and is called 5x kratom extract. The same rule still follows today’s extracts instead that they are done in different extraction machines and solutions. It is also because of the modern technology that companies tend to make an enormous 100x kratom extract (which as you can see from the previous example, will take 100g of kratom leaves crushed into 1g of kratom powder). The higher the extract multiplier number a kratom extract has, the more potent it becomes.
Now, we will slowly get to the main topic standardized kratom extract. For your information, kratom leaves do not contain only one type of alkaloid and component. There are mitragynine, 7-hydroxymitragynine, mitraphylline, cellulose, wax, other resins, and plant chemicals. The most necessary alkaloid needed to achieve stimulating and sedating effects is 7-hydroxymitragynine and mitragynine. But because extraction means that the plant part was only crushed and reduced into simpler forms, a lot of other materials can be found in it. In other words, full effects cannot be obtained.
In order to obtain, for example, pure stimulating and sedating effects of the strain “Maeng Da kratom”, we need to get only pure mitragynine and 7-hydroxy mitragynine. That’s where the standardized extraction method is employed. With this method involving meticulous selection and removal of different items, standardized kratom extracts are produced. They contain only 100% alkaloid such as mitragynine or 7-hydroxymitragynine or both. But almost 85% of standardized kratom extracts sold in the market contain pure mitragynine. It is because mitragynine is believed to be the most active component of kratom that is responsible for the stimulating and sedating effects.
